A MEMÓRIA DA PAVIMENTAÇÃO NO BRASIL
(The Memory of Pavement in Brazil)
One of the most popular sayings is that Brazil is a country with no memory.
It refers to the fact that our authorities and our people don’t
take care of our past in the same way that the first world seem to. That’s
not always true
There are isolated, altruistic initiatives, like the one the Engineer
Atahualpa Schmitz da Silva Prego with the help of the ABPv took, to rescue
an important part of our past.
In his book “A Memória da Pavimentação no
Brasil” (The Memory of Pavement in Brazil) the Engineer Atahualpa
tell us with rich detail how the craft of pavement evolved since the ancient
time till our days, specially looking at the history of the last century.
It’s a book full of details. With precise numbers of government
costs, formulas, dates, materials and measurements.
It’s a document. It has the letters wrote by the persons who actually
lived the history, the pictures taken at those moments and restored with
the modern resources of computer graphics.
It’s a book of characters. Of engineers who had a pioneer job
creating and perfectioning the techniques that are teached in the university
today. The author, Dr. Atahualpa, among them had and has an important
place.
It’s a book to remember our country that it has a past, and to
allow the modern engineers to know a time where the computer was not omnipresent.
